NaFFAA Lauds AAPI Contributions During Asian Pacific American Heritage Month

Washington, D.C. - It is with deep pride that the National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA) recognizes now, more than ever, the diligence and selfless actions that are exemplified daily by our fellow Asian American Pacific Islander (AAPI) community. This month can serve to honor the culture and traditions of Asians and Pacific Islanders in the United States.

“Asian Pacific American Heritage Month is a crucial time for us to gather together to shine a light on our shared histories, to lift up our community’s heroes, and to forge forward together,”says NaFFAA National Chairman and President Brendan Flores.

Asian Americans continue to be the fastest growing population in the U.S. Additionally, we are projected to be the largest immigrant group with the Filipino American community as the fastest growing AAPI subset.  With an average household income over $20,000 greater than the national average, Asian Americans continue to positively contribute to the nation’s economy. Businesses throughout the country will need to pay more attention to the needs of the Asian American community.

We must also realize that the impact that our community has on the nation comes in many forms. According to a report on NBCNews.com, Nielsen estimated that the combined purchasing power of the Asian American Pacific Islander community is over $1 trillion, projected to reach $1.3 trillion by 2023.

Everything we do on a daily basis becomes part of our history and legacy.  We celebrate the continuous efforts of our fellow Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, because they constantly work to guarantee a brighter future for generations to come. The AAPI community has been present in various capacities and plays an integral role in shaping America.  Whether it be on the front lines battling COVID-19, preserving Asian American history through ethnic studies programs, or keeping our communities fed, there is and should always be a place for our community to showcase their immense passion and potential. The AAPI community is an indispensable force in times of feast or famine.

“Let us shape a nation that we wish to be a part of for generations to come.  NaFFAA’s efforts in leadership development, civic engagement, economic empowerment, and national advocacy are steps towards a future where we are more involved. We can continue to foster a community in which we are creators, not just consumers. Producers, not just buyers. Leaders, not just followers. We can keep working towards a society where all are empowered, encouraged, and enabled. Together, let us continue to make history and write our collective story!” says NaFFAA National Chairman and President Brendan Flores.
