FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Let’s stay connected - from a distance.

(March 14, 2020, Washington DC) - This past week, the World Health Organization (WHO) announced that the outbreak of COVID-19, the disease caused by the novel coronavirus, has been characterized as a global pandemic. Yesterday, President Trump also declared a National State of Emergency.

As the world endures this period of fear and uncertainty, the following statement was issued today by Brendan Flores, NaFFAA National Chairman and President:

“As Filipinos, we love connecting with one another. As we practice social distancing and self-isolation as mandated by health professionals and governments, may we always have others in mind, no matter how near or far,” says Brendan Flores, NaFFAA National Chairman and President. “And if there is anything that we can do to help one another and the community as a whole, let us continue to practice generosity, selflessness, and bayanihan in these extraordinary times. May we all come out of this stronger – together.”

Since 1997, the National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA) has promoted the welfare and well-being of the four million Filipinos and Filipino Americans throughout the United States.

NaFFAA reminds the Filipino American community of simple and vital practices to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, as recommended by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC):

Always practice good hygiene. Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing; using the bathroom; and before eating or preparing food.

Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.

Avoid large crowds. Stay at home if you feel ill, particularly with flu-like symptoms, and if you have a sick person in your home.

Stay safe at home. Stay healthy.
