In one year, COVID-19 has claimed nearly 30 million lives worldwide and over 500,000 in the United States. Of those 500,000, health care workers have shouldered the burden and born the brunt of the pandemic. Over 30% of the nurses who have died from coronavirus in the United States are Filipino, even though Filipino nurses make up just 4% of the nursing population. The Philippines continues to be the leading exporter of professional nurses to the U.S., thus most Filipino Americans have close ties and have been deeply impacted by the pandemic.

The National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA) has acted to educate the Filipino American community around the effects of COVID-19 and how best to avoid them.

In 2020, during the height of the decennial Census and Presidential Elections, NaFFAA bridged issues through social media campaigns while distributing masks encouraging community members to complete their Census forms and ballots.

For 2021, NaFFAA has launched the "Wag Mabahala: Magpabakuna! Don't Hesitate: Vaccinate!" campaign to educate and motivate the Filipino American community to get the COVID-19 vaccine.
