Phil Smith
State Chair, NaFFAA Indiana
Philip Smith is the State Chair of Indiana for NaFFAA since 2019. He is a Navy Veteran with 15 years of public service. He loves to garden on his acre plot and takes care of his livestock on his farm. He is married to his partner of 10 years. He is a Foster Dad and Father of a their baby daughter. He is an adopted Filipino American. Born in Pangasinan, Philippines and brought to the USA when he was 1 week old. He found his birth family in 2010. He went to live there for a year in 2012 to see what his life would be life if he wasn't a adopted. He came back home with a new self worth and purpose. In 2020 he took a gamble and opened up a Community Center for Filipino Americans. He is the Founder of The Philippines Cultural Community Center in Indianapolis that operates a 9,000 square foot building that hosts social programs and cultural events for Fil-Ams in Indiana. Philip is a pioneer for AAPI LGBTQ rights as he is the Founder of the AAPI LGBTQ Pride in Indiana and Founder of the AAPI Chamber of Commerce in Indianapolis.

The purpose of the roundtable discussion is part of NaFFAA’s ongoing campaign to advocate and educate the Filipinx-American community around LGBTQIA+ rights and recognition. The featured panelists will contextualize the hardships they faced coming out and being part of the typically traditional Filipinx culture.
