NaFFAA Encourages Action in the Face of Senseless Violence in Texas

Washington, DC – The National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA) joins all Americans in mourning the senseless loss of life at the First Baptist Church in Sutherland Springs, Texas. NaFFAA National Chairman Brendan Flores issued the following statement:

“As a nation still recovering from disasters such as Hurricane Harvey in Houston, and tragedies such as the shooting in the Las Vegas, to face another senseless event like this pushes us to the edge of our human capacity. But we must, in this time of grief, reflect on the 26 lost souls and the dozens more injured. For their sake, we should be weary of the hopelessness and apathy that’s borne out of the confusion.

While not all the facts of the attack are yet known, we do know this: such a cowardly act of evil should, and must, be met with action. Whether you are in Texas or somewhere else entirely, do all you can to come to the aid of your neighbors. Donate blood to local blood banks. Offer your homes to those who’ve experienced loss. Encourage your representatives to put a more robust focus on mental and behavioral health. And finally, have a conversation about the need for more responsible and accountable legislation.”
