Washington D.C.,<\/b>– Today, the National Federation of Filipino American Associations NAFFAA is saddened by the loss of Mayor Pro Tem Tzeitel Paras-Caracci, the first Filipino-American to be elected to the Duarte City Council. She died on June 25th at age 49 following a nearly 3-year battle against lung cancer. She served as the City of Duarte’s mayor in 2006, 2011, 2015, and 2019 and as the president of the Asian Pacific American Municipal Officials.<\/h5>\n
NaFFAA National Chair and President Brendan Flores remarked: “We lost an outstanding leader and great pioneer. She found great joy in the opportunity to wake up each day, to make a difference in service to her City of Duarte. She was the epitome of servant leadership, a true inspiration for me, and I’m sure many others throughout the nation. I challenge our Filipino-American young leaders with a passion for community to follow in her footsteps and continue to make history in public service for our growing Filipino-American population.”<\/b><\/h5>\n
