Yet, Filipinos are severely underrepresented in elected positions at every level of government; for the U.S. Congress to be truly representative, there should be at least 6 Filipino-American members of Congress.<\/p>\n<p>Filipino American officials that were re-elected to their respective offices included <strong>U.S. Representative Bobby Scott <\/strong>of Virginia (VA-03), <strong>Attorney General Sean Reyes<\/strong> of Utah, <strong>State Assemblymember Rob Bonta<\/strong> and Alameda<strong> Vice Mayor Malia Vella<\/strong> of California, <strong>State Senators Gilbert Keith Agaran, Joy San Buenaventura, Donovan Dela Cruz, Lorraine Inouye,<\/strong> and <strong>Donna Mercado Kim<\/strong>\u00a0of Hawaii, and <strong>State Representatives Henry Aquino, Ty Cullen, <\/strong>and <strong>Della Au Belatti, <\/strong>and <strong>Val Okimoto<\/strong>\u00a0also of Hawaii.<strong> Rachelle Arizmendi<\/strong> was selected to a second term as Mayor of the City of Sierra Madre,<strong> Juslyn Manalo<\/strong> as Mayor of Daly City, <strong>Letty Lopez-Viado<\/strong> as Mayor of West Covina City, <strong>Melissa Ramoso,<\/strong> appointed Mayor Pro Tem of Artesia, and <strong>Rozzana Verder-Aliga,<\/strong> elected Vice Mayor of Vallejo, all in the State of California. In Hawaii,<strong> Bennette Misalucha<\/strong> won the election for the State Senate District 16 after being appointed to the seat by Governor David Ige earlier this year. <strong>Judge Anjana Hansen<\/strong> won in the general retention as 9th Subcircuit Judge of the Cook County Judicial Circuit Court, Illinois, and <strong>Angelito Tenorio<\/strong> won as Alderman in the City of West Allis, Wisconsin. NaFFAA celebrates the Filipino Americans who will be entering office for the first time, including <strong>State Representative-elect Marvin Lim<\/strong> (District 99) and<strong> Hon. Karen Watkins,<\/strong> Gwinnett County Board of Education (District 1) of Georgia,<strong> State Representatives Ernesto &#8220;Sonny&#8221; Ganaden<\/strong> and<strong> Greggor Ilagan,<\/strong> and Honolulu <strong>Council Members-elect Radiant Cordero <\/strong>and <strong>Augusto &#8220;Augie&#8221; Tulba<\/strong> of Hawaii, Maplewood <strong>Council Member-elect Nikki Villavicencio<\/strong> of Minnesota, Wake County <strong>Commissioner-elect Maria Cervania<\/strong> of North Carolina, and Tukwilawa <strong>Council Member-elect Cynthia Delostrinos Johnson<\/strong> of Washington. We also celebrate those who will be transitioning from one elected office to another, including Hercules City<strong> Council Member-elect Alexander Walker-Griffin<\/strong> will rotate into the Mayorship in 2022, and <strong>Mayor-elect Todd Gloria<\/strong> of San Diego.<\/p>\n\n<p>&#8220;Congratulations to all the Filipino Americans in their bids for office this year and thank you for your commitment to the Filipino community and to your communities at home,&#8221; commented NaFFAA National Chairman <strong>Brendan Flores.<\/strong> &#8220;Civic engagement is very important, and there is an opportunity for members to also apply for federal positions, including appointed offices.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Former Mayor of Cerritos, California, <strong>Mark Pulido,<\/strong> who helps lead NaFFAA&#8217;s Run for Office phase of the FilAm Vote Program, says &#8220;A new White House administration brings the opportunity for FilAms to apply for appointments and jobs in the federal government. We encourage members of our community to visit <a href=\"https:\/\/buildbackbetter.gov\/join-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">https:\/\/buildbackbetter.gov\/join-us\/<\/a> for opportunities to serve.
