(650) 0867-9837<\/p>\n<h1 dir=\"ltr\" style=\"text-align: center;\"><span>NaFFAA Expresses Concern Around White House\u2019s Immigration Framework<\/span><\/h1>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><strong>Washington, DC<\/strong><span> \u2013 Recently, the White House <span class=\"il\">released<\/span> its <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefings-statements\/white-house-framework-immigration-reform-border-security\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefings-statements\/white-house-framework-immigration-reform-border-security\/&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1519325154244000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFUknDA7o_9cJxcQPcgMESN-i_nlg\"><span>Framework on Immigration Reform &amp; Border Security<\/span><\/a><span>, which contains a provision limiting family sponsorships to \u201cspouses and minor children only,\u201d thereby supporting the elimination of sponsorships for parents, adult children, and siblings.\u00a0 According to the National Visa Center\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/travel.state.gov\/content\/dam\/visas\/Statistics\/Immigrant-Statistics\/WaitingList\/WaitingListItem_2017.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=https:\/\/travel.state.gov\/content\/dam\/visas\/Statistics\/Immigrant-Statistics\/WaitingList\/WaitingListItem_2017.pdf&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1519325154244000&amp;usg=AFQjCNH7zbXj1EbRy9WE6iIRor4WvkB0QQ\"><span>Annual Report of Immigrant Visa Applicants<\/span><\/a><span>, there are more than 333,000 Filipinos waiting to reunite with their loved ones here in the United States.\u00a0 Not only do Filipinos have the second highest number of family-sponsored waiting list registrants in the world (second only to Mexico), but they also suffer the longest wait times of any group: more than 23 years according to the latest <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/travel.state.gov\/content\/travel\/en\/legal\/visa-law0\/visa-bulletin\/2018\/visa-bulletin-for-february-2018.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?hl=en&amp;q=https:\/\/travel.state.gov\/content\/travel\/en\/legal\/visa-law0\/visa-bulletin\/2018\/visa-bulletin-for-february-2018.html&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1519325154244000&amp;usg=AFQjCNGqwgGcbOuc3-BW2-OhEcoHghGOcg\"><span>Visa Bulletin<\/span><\/a><span>. In response to the White House\u2019s immigration framework, the National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA) issued the following statement<\/span><span>: <\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span>\u201cWhile we agree that the White House\u2019s proposed pathway to citizenship for DREAMers represents progress in the immigration debate, we believe that the additional restrictions they propose on family-based immigration is an affront to the American spirit of compassion and freedom,\u201d said NaFFAA National Chairman Brendan Flores. \u201cWe believe that the focus of the current debate should be on the countless stories of reunified family members and how they have contributed to the freedom and opportunity of the American promise.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p dir=\"ltr\"><span>Marie Cunning, member of <span id=\"m_-4684299397491541248m_8138629823580920042m_7650752653296205821gmail-docs-internal-guid-4f471241-7b80-a433-cb30-6051d99b6bdc\">NaFFAA\u2019s<\/span> Board of Governors, <\/span><span>added: \u201cAs a national voice for Filipino Americans, NaFFAA expresses our concern for any proposal that would separate Filipino families from their loved ones.
